High School Football
I didn’t always hate playing football I used to love the game and dream of continuing to

go up levels. From youth football at the age of seven all the way up to eighteen my senior year of high school, I played. High school is where the downfall began, when I felt it started to take away from my life. But like all bad things, it seemed so good at the beginning, wither that was new friends, representing the school, and being a part of something. I had no idea of what was to come in the next four years. First, it all began my freshman year. Back then, we only had to start reporting to football in late July. It felt nice to get familiar with the school and its layout before any of the other students. As a freshman, I didn’t do nearly as much weight training or have as long of practices as the upperclassmen did. After summer football finished and our little amount of passing league games had passed, it was on to the real season. During the regular season, life wasn’t too bad. Practice was only three days a week and games on thursdays. This left Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to myself and being a freshman, homework wasn’t bad at all. Me and my friends would have time to hang out, it wasn’t as intense letting me have more time for family and vacations as well. Having all this freedom helped me keep my pride for the sport where i’d do my best as a player. I would make sure I was starting on both sides and help the team win. Overall it was a great season and I had a lot of fun, made new friends and was ready for the next season. Coming it to sophomore year I didn’t really know what to expect. If it was

going to be more like freshman football or what me and my friends thought varsity was like. The first main difference was that players had to report a lot earlier than we had too freshman year. Rather than showing up in late June we started like our first season, we started preparing for J.V february of freshman year. The months of february-may were pretty normal, there was only lifting four days and one day to go out on the field and run. This would last up to the end of May where we got a week off for finals. To our surprise me and my friend sean thought we were going to get till late June to have a summer,we were wrong. Practice officially started the morning after the last day of school. They would have us come to the field right as the run rose, we could barely open our eyes but the brisk air kept us awake. The coaches only purpose of doing this was to make us clean up after graduation. I’ll tell you, picking up silly string scattered vastly over a field is not fun. After that practice continued just like it would have freshman year, just taken a little more seriously. During the month of June the team would be doing passing league for the first time. This was just like football but mostly throwing, no pads only touch, and seven guys on each team. Me and my friend thought these practices were funny, only skill players did passing league so sean being a lineman only had to run a few laps and go home while I stayed longer to practice. June past and gone with july now upon me, it was almost time for pads and my very first camp.
